Hello, Harris Health Family.
I usually write these messages over the weekends after my morning coffee, when I am at my most relaxed frame of mind. I am now writing you this message late in the evening of a very long day, but I am way too excited to rest.
Today’s results mark what may perhaps be the most impactful and memorable inflection point in the storied history of our great organization. Voters of Harris County have overwhelmingly approved our historic $2.5 billion bond proposal that among other things will allow for the creation of our second Level I trauma center, as well as the renovation and expansion of services, capacity and capability across our Ambulatory Care Services, Ben Taub and LBJ hospitals’ campuses.
Never since its creation nearly 60 years ago, has Harris Health ever had a clearer vote of confidence and support from our community who is trusting us with this generous investment in the future health of our community, for everyone in our community. I am humbled by this and reminded that with this trust comes a great deal of hope and expectation. Hope in our ability to fulfill our mission of improving the health of our community, and expectation that we do exactly what we have explained over the past few months and deliver on our promises.
The journey to get us to this point has been a long and arduous one. I want to thank every one of you for your dedication to this cause and your efforts to communicate to our elected officials, our stakeholders, and our community members the need and the urgency we face. The hard work of bringing our dreams to reality begins now. So, I want to invite everyone to join me as we begin our journey into a future in which Harris Health fulfills its vision of becoming a premier academic health center. A future in which our patients have access not only to the highest quality of care but the most optimal environment of care. And a future in which our Harris Health family members, all of you, can work in buildings that you are proud of, and buildings that provide a level of comfort that is conducive to higher efficiency and safety.
I have never in my life been more excited about the future than I am today. I sincerely hope and pray that you share my excitement and my commitment to make our community even more proud of what Harris Health is and what it does.
